Remaining Native Film Screening
We are so excited to offer two free screenings of the film Remaining Native by Paige Bethmann at Black Bear Cinemas in Orono on Friday, May 8, 2026.
There will be a matinee at 1:30 and an evening show at 6:00 followed by a post-film discussion with the filmmaker.
Remaining Native is a documentary told from the perspective of Ku Stevens, a 17-year-old Native American runner, struggling to navigate his dream of becoming a collegiate athlete as the memory of his great-grandfather's escape from an Indian boarding school begins to connect past, present, and future.
The next day, on May 9, 2026, we will be hosting a running camp for Wabanaki youth led by Wings of America, an organization that ensures Native youth enrich their physical, mental, and spiritual wellness. We are grateful to Maine Indian Education and Indian Island School for partnering with us on this wonderful event.
