Dawnland Film & Panel Discussion - University of Southern Maine / April 13, 2023

Join us for this special public event in April about the Indian Child Welfare Act of 1978, (ICWA), widely considered the gold standard in child welfare policy. The Supreme Court will determine whether ICWA continues as the law of the land.  What does this mean for people in Maine?

Because of wonderful collaborative relationships, we are able to offer this in-person screenings of the broadcast version of Dawnland followed by a panel discussion. Dawnland is the Emmy award winning film about the work of Wabanaki REACH and the Maine Wabanaki-State Child Welfare Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Panelists are: Esther Anne, Passamaquoddy, Catherine Cutler Institute, Tribal-State ICWA Workgroup Facilitator and Co-chair of the Wabanaki REACH Board of Directors; Penthea Burns, Catherine Cutler Institute, Wabanaki REACH co-founder and Secretary for the Board of Directors; Martha Proulx, retired ICWA Liaison for the Maine Office of Child and Family Services and Wabanaki REACH volunteer; and Nora Sosnoff, retired Chief of the Child Protection Division, Office of the Maine Attorney General.
